Winter Journey
Details
Event information
Overview: Our Winter Journey will involve us setting up a base camp at Burrill Pines Camp, just south of Ulladulla on the South Coast. The camp has running water, toilets and showers in a bush setting, and we will have a camp fire each night. There will be a focus on skills such as map reading, navigation, fire lighting, cooking and survival and pioneering skills, all done in a fun way. One of the days will see us climb the nearby Mt Pigeon House, whilst on other days we will be doing short, fun activities close to the camp, including on the beach which is only 50 metres from the camp.
Preparation: Scouts have recently covered some aspects of navigation and fire lighting, and these skills will be enriched on the camp.
Clothes & Equipment: A full packing list will be sent out to participating scouts at least a week prior to the camp. The main items needed will be a day pack, warm clothing including rain jacket, and a warm sleeping bag rated to no higher than zero degrees. Tents and cooking utensils will be supplied, but you will need to bring your own cutlery, plate and bowl for eating.
Travel arrangements:
- Meet on Saturday 5th July at Haberfield Hall at 8.30am. We will travel to and from the camp in leaders' vehicles.
- Return: Pick up by parents/guardians on Tuesday 8th July at 17:00 (5.00pm)
